I finished a scarf this week.  I picked up the pattern and most of the yarn in Canmore during the dyeing road trip.

Herringbone Scarf (as envisioned by Bohoknits).

9.0 mm needles with the Noro Silk Garden, 5.5 mm crochet hook with a wee bit of Cascade 220 Heathers for the crocheted border.

This morning I weighed myself and I had reached my 15-lb weightloss goal!  I now weigh 10 lbs less than I did in High School, and I am no longer in the “Borderline Obese” category in that stupid BMI thing (they could at least say overweight instead of using that other O word, geez).  Despite my horrendous tan lines on my legs and shoulders, I’m going to wear my new dress to work today.

I took a mini-vacation and attended the Edmonton Folk Festival from Wednesday night to last night and it was fantastic!  My highlights were Hanggai (Mongolian music from China), Alex Cuba (he said there is a rich culture of pick-up lines in Cuba, and one of his songs was titled, “Baby, if You Were a Cook I’d Eat Everything Off my Plate”), Pine Leaf Boys, Jill Barber (I still love her music, now I love her fashion sense), and The Idan Raichel Project (sorry, it’s a MySpace page).

Of course, I knitted while I was there:

I knitted up the Helena pattern from the summer 2008 Knitty for my friend’s daughter (nicknamed Turkey-Bacon). I started it in February after I learned she had a girl and finished it yesterday; good thing she’s a small 6-month-old!

Helena

Knit on 4mm and 3mm needles using Mirasol Hacho colourway 309 and for trim, King Cole Merino Blend DK colourway 703. The Hachos were in different dyelots, and I had to get the King Cole because I couldn’t find any remaining Hacho; I don’t know if I lost it or used it up and none of the LYSs had any in stock! But the trim gave it an interesting detail; it reminds me of a kimono and a smoking jacket.

My friend Raura came out to my parents farm on July 28th and we dyed some yarns, finishing up at about midnight (much to the entertainment of my dad).  And in the morning I worried that the skeins hadn’t exhausted their dyes so we placed the baggies under the back window of my car and drove to Banff and back with them cooking under the window (sadly, we forgot to take a picture of them in the rear window).
