Delly Bean

Sewing, Knitting and Smithing…sort of…

So posting is going to be sporadic over the next little while; I’m working a lot right now, and playing a little, but in my free time I’m trying to make my Christmas presents and more than one of the recipients reads this blog, so there aren’t going to be any photos.  I’m not even allowing myself to knit for me.  And I always find time to knit for me.

But I’ve got 8 vacation days left, and I got permission to take an extra day off a week over the month of December and then I’ll take the rest over Christmas week (of which I will spend half at the farm…do you think the -22 C nights will continue long enough to freeze the lakes enough for ice fishing around then?) so maybe I’ll get the things done and I can start working on the fun things for me again.

In the mean time, I still make a little time for myself; I read right before I go to sleep.  But I finished my latest book and am wondering where to go next.  I’ll pull something out of my collection to tide me over, but if you have a favourite fantasy novel, leave a note in the comments, I’d like to check out something new.

…I would end up working a shift in the Mall on Buy Nothing Day (also called Black Friday…the Buy Nothing is the fight against consumerism…I’m building my Christmas presents this year…see the weirdness that is just short of irony?).

Brings Out My Competitive Nature November 21, 2007

How About Orange had this on her blog and I can’t stop…I’ve given 1100 grains of rice, but the thing is, if you get one word wrong, it sends you back a level, and then it takes you several words to get back up one level.  Frustrating and good all in one.

This is old, but Winston’s dance moves reminded me of this and I had to share it in case I knew people who hadn’t seen it before.

Knitterly Crush of the Week 2 November 19, 2007

I got a free second-hand leather jacket this weekend.  It’s chexy (a word created by my brother when I was 16…the popular term of the time was “chillin’” and he was complimenting me on something, and he accidentally blended chillin’ with sexy and it became my favourite word for awhile…he still has that affect on me.  He’s the reason this blog is called Delly Bean), but it’s not the warmest coat.  I have a zip cardigan in black that is my staple, but just this morning I was thinking to myself that it would be nice to have a cardigan that didn’t have a hood to affect the line in the back.

Then tonight I was reading this post by The Dropstitch Knitter, and I fell in love with this cardigan and…instantly bought the pattern.  I think I’m going to do something a little different with the very front though; not really digging on the fact that it rolls back, but that’s neither here nor there.  But I hadn’t heard of The Garter Belt before, and now I think I’m in love.

Here are pictures of my Achillea in progress.  I’m knitting it in Trekking XXL.

So Funny I Couldn’t Laugh Anymore November 18, 2007

Last night for my friend Sandra’s birthday we went to The Comic Strip and caught Winston Spear. I haven’t laughed that hard and that long in AGES. This was the way he closed the show.

Knitterly Crush of the Week November 12, 2007

Perhaps this will be a new feature…we’ll see.  It’s just that…well…Ysolda is a knitting goddess and homage must be paid.  She just posted a video of a long tail tubular cast on for ribbing.  It has opened doors to all sorts of new worlds, and I frogged the Bob Cratchmitt (I devised this name because boys don’t like the term mittenettes, and I think they’re something Bob Cratchit from A Christmas Carol could have used) I had started to knit just so that I could have a cast-on that matches my bind-off.  I am a happy knitter.
